Where are the nearest shops?
Our village Bettiscombe is in fact a hamlet and, apart from a handful of houses, all we have is a great church hall and a very pretty church. Our own shop MM Stores is on our drive, the next nearest being Marshwood Stores in the village of Marshwood (about a 4 minute drive or a short, steep walk across the fields). There are two excellent farm shops nearby and supermarkets in Beaminster, Bridport and Crewkerne. Many of our guests choose to have a supermarket delivery on their arrival day and all the major supermarkets are happy to deliver here.
How many dogs can I bring?
We love dogs and we welcome them to all our cottages with no extra charge. We would ask that if you wish to bring more than 2 dogs you call first to let us know. We would also ask all owners to not allow dogs in bedrooms, to pooper-scoop around the grounds after their dogs and to be mindful of other dogs who may be staying as well as two cats that live here and livestock in neighbouring fields.
Is there an enclosed garden?
We have found that many of our guests greatly appreciate the fact that as well as being able to roam through our woods and fields, each cottage has a small, fenced, private garden so dogs and toddlers can be contained in a safe environment.
Where do we pick up the keys?
One of us is always here on arrival days to greet you – pop into MM Stores on your way up the drive to collect the key.
Is there WiFi?
There is free speedy WiFi in all our cottages.
What is the mobile signal like?
The Marshwood Vale is secluded; that’s what makes it so special. However, unless you are with Vodafone, the phone signal is somewhat patchy.
Can you recommend local pubs and restaurants?
We have spent endless hours in our new county eating in restaurants and drinking in pubs solely to be able to share our reviews of them with our guests! We are currently working on a list of our personal recommendations which will be in the guest folders in each cottage.
Do you provide cot bedding?
Cot bedding is the only linen that we do not provide as it differs from baby to baby as to what they are used to. All our cots are wooden cots, not travel cots and of course are fitted with a mattress but you will need to bring your own bedding.
What is the minimum stay?
During the Summer holidays the minimum stay is one week and at all other times two nights and three nights at the Lodge.
What time is arrival and check-out?
Arrival time is from 3pm onwards and check-out is by 10am on your day of departure. We have found that many weekend guests in the Winter would like to stay here during Sunday and leave later in the day. To that end we have started offering a late-stay price that is roughly half-way between 2 nights and 3 nights and gives guests the option of leaving any time on Sunday until 10pm.
